What is Personal Branding for Golf Coaches?
Is personal branding a current trend or has it always been around?
In fact, the topic “personal branding” has been around for a very long time, but it is currently a topic you can find everywhere, especially on social media. In this blog post, I explain what personal branding actually is and what it means for your as a Golf Coach, as well as why you as a Golf Coach should also take care of your personal brand.
What is personal branding?
There are two types of personal branding – expert brands and lifestyle brands.
The Lifestyle Brand – this type of personal brand is usually found in the fashion and entertainment sector. The focus here is on the person’s lifestyle, including high visibility and awareness. Influencers, celebrities, musicians, actors, and artists fall into this category.
The Expert Brand – this type of personal brand focuses on expertise and personality. As the name suggests, knowledge and expertise on a topic are important here. Experts who have made a name for themselves in a specific field fall into this category.
In general, the focus of a personal brand is always on the person and not on the company / product, as it is the case with a corporate brand.
What is the aim of Personal Branding?
The aim of personal branding is to build and position a person as a brand. It is about actively managing the person’s reputation and standing. What they are recognized for and how, and what is said about them.
Simply put, personal branding is what others talk about you when you are not in the room.
How to build a personal brand in 3 steps
Building a personal brand as a golf coach is about highlighting your special features, uniqueness, and expertise so that you can stand out from the crowd. How can you present yourself authentically to be remembered by your target group?
Brand building takes place from the inside out.
Step 1: Who are you?
The foundation for your personal brand is your personality and your values. What is your mission, your vision and your values?
Step 2: What is your positioning and uniqueness?
Once the foundation has been laid, it’s time to find out what your focus will be and what sets you apart from the competition or other golf coaches. Who is your target group and what do you offer?
Step 3: Become visible
Once the foundation and positioning are in place, it’s time to decide how you will become visible. How do you manage to get your message across to your target group? Choose marketing channels that suit you and that you enjoy.
Do you need a personal brand as a Golf Coach?
As mentioned above, personal branding is about actively managing your own reputation, so it is not an irrelevant topic for you as a Golf Coach either.
A good and positive reputation is important for a successful Golf Coaching Business. For example, if your goal is to become an expert in a certain area of the game, then it is not only important that you acquire the relevant knowledge, but also that people know that you are an expert in this area.
The benefits of building a personal brand as a Golf Coach are:
- high visibility – by having a consistently defined personal brand, you can increase your visibility in your target group.
- building trust – if your target group knows who you are and what you stand for, it is easier for them to build trust. In most cases, people prefer to buy from people they know and trust.
- Authenticity – your key to success and the core of a personal brand. Be yourself, show yourself as you are. Share your individual opinion on topics and show your personality – strengths as well as weaknesses. It is easier to connect with people who are authentic and tell real stories. Don’t create an artificial persona – not only is it exhausting in the long run, but it also doesn’t come across as real. Authenticity is important for a successful personal brand.
